Week 2

Greg Giorgio

I'll start out this week ...

Artist: Joss Stone
Album: The Soul Sessions

Comments: I need to ask how one gets invited to the Oprah's Book Club for Your Ears club? I think my buddy Dan would not only love to be involved but I think that everyone would enjoy his taste in music. I would like to also nominate Chris Pelletier for membership. "Eric Straten, rush chairman. Damn glad to meet you."

Adam Fleishman

Artist: Robert Plant
Album: Dreamland

Comments: This album caught me by complete supprise when I first listened to it a few years ago. Not only does it have a great vibe, but it rocks as well. Robert's voice is as good as ever, and the track listing includes all kinds of covers from blues to jazz to rock and roll in southern creole. A fantastic album to have as a backdrop to whatever your doing, It comes very highly recomended.

Richie Victorino

Artist: Strangefolk
Album: Lore

Comments: hmm … Next suggestion to all is this: well i'm going to somewhat "pussy" out on this because this is a CD that's been in my collection for a long time, and many (most) are familiar with the band, but make sure you listen to this CD... from start to finish it is a perfect story of an entire summer of mine (99)...
Ahh the actual album I forgot to add!
Strangefolk, LORE, a tight effort, and a bigger sound than expected from this "never really been that big" band.

Ben Peirce

Artist: Beach Boys
Album: Pet Sounds

Comments: This is by no means an unknown album and its as much a recommendation for myself as it is for anyone else because I haven't really given it a good listen. Pet Sounds is a much-heralded classic though that pushed all sorts of boundaries in recording techniques and was meant to be presented as one cohesive piece of music, a la Sgt. Pepper's (although this actually came our a year earlier) as opposed to a collection of catchy songs which is probably what most people think of when they think Beach Boys. Find a time when you can listen from start to finish and give it a try.

Josh Nason

Artist: Chevelle
Album: This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In

Comments: I agree with Greg...CP and La Dan. My selection has nothing to do with the Dirrrrty South from which I just returned. However, it does have something to do with the band I saw Thursday before leaving: Chevelle - This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In Just straight forward, kick you in your face, hard rock. Perfect if you're having a day when you need the adrenaline to rise a bit. To see them in concert is a must as well...by the way, the Hampton Ballroom is a frickin' great place to see a show.
